Home Upkeepers began with chaos...  the beautiful kind. A week after our founder and owner, Andrew, and his wife Becca bought their first home, their daughter Lily was born. Between sleepless nights and learning the ropes of new parenthood, home maintenance didn’t exactly top the to-do list.

A few months later, his father-in-law noticed the HVAC blinking red and asked if he'd changed the air filters. He hadn’t. When finally getting around to replace them, Andrew realized he'd been circulating dirty air through their home, unknowingly putting their family’s health at risk. That was the official wake-up call.

​

He tallied a list of all the things that needed to be done: air filters, dryer vents, water heaters, washing machine... you name it it was on the quickly growing list. Between long workdays and wanting to spend weekends with family, there was no way to keep up. The easy solution was to look around to hire someone to take care of it all. Andrew went looking for a single company that could handle everything in one place. And to his surprise, it didn’t exist. The only options were to juggle five or six different service providers or spend every weekend doing it himself.

That moment of frustration sparked Andrew's entrepreneurial spirit. At the time, he was working in early-stage tech startups, even planning to start a consulting firm, but the idea to start a company that did all of this work was like a fly buzzing around his head. With encouragement from Becca, support from his father-in-law Dave (a true Midwestern handyman), and help from family and friends, it was decided to build the solution he'd wished existed.

Those first jobs weren’t done by a hired crew. It was just Dave, Andrew, and Cousin Vinny side-by-side, working in between life's other obligations at the homes of friends and family, perfecting the quality and care that would become Home Upkeepers’ hallmark.

​

Home Upkeepers has been a bootstrap effort from day one, growing year after year thanks to word of mouth and an unwavering mission: to create healthier homes and give families back their most precious resource: time. Time to relax. Time to recharge. Time to enjoy the people and passions that make life truly feel like home.
